UMARU MUSA YAR’ADUA: THE PRESIDENT NIGERIANS WILL NEVER FORGET

UMARU MUSA YAR’ADUA: THE PRESIDENT NIGERIANS WILL NEVER FORGET

UMARU MUSA YAR’ADUA: THE PRESIDENT NIGERIANS WILL NEVER FORGET

In the history of Nigeria, leaders have come and gone, some leaving scars and others leaving blessings. But in the brief window of just two years (2007–2010), one man came with humility, sincerity, and courage—and etched his name into our national memory forever. His name is Umaru Musa Yar’adua.

A LEADER FOR ALL

Yar’adua was a Muslim, yet Christians loved him. He was Hausa, yet the Igbo, Yoruba, Tiv, Ibibio, Efik, Ijaw, Kanuri, and every tribe saw him as one of their own. He did not rule as a northern president—he ruled as a Nigerian president. In a nation too often divided by tribe and religion, Yar’adua rose above it all and treated every region, every faith, and every citizen with equal dignity.

THE PEACE MAKER OF THE NIGER DELTA

When Yar’adua assumed office, the Niger Delta was aflame with militancy, oil installations were under siege, and the country was losing billions of dollars daily. With wisdom and compassion, he introduced the Amnesty Program, extending a hand of peace instead of an iron fist. Militants laid down their arms, oil production resumed, and the nation witnessed stability in a region once synonymous with violence. Till today, that single initiative remains one of Nigeria’s greatest peace efforts.

LITTLE STEPS, BIG IMPACT

Yar’adua never pretended to be a miracle worker. He was honest with Nigerians—he told us the truth, admitted challenges, and never shifted blame. Even while battling illness, he pressed on with courage.

He reduced the pump price of fuel, easing the burden on ordinary Nigerians.

He increased workers’ salaries, bringing relief to millions of families.

He saved billions of dollars in reserves, building a cushion that spared Nigeria the worst of the 2007–2009 global recession.

He launched a seven-point agenda that prioritized power, food security, education, and infrastructure—clear, realistic steps for Nigeria’s growth.

He did not perform magic, but his little steps in the right direction endeared him to us all.

A HUMBLE SOUL IN POWER

Unlike many who see power as a throne of arrogance, Yar’adua saw it as service. He was accessible, transparent, and deeply respectful of the people. Nigerians remember how he openly declared his assets, setting an example of honesty rare in our politics. Even when he was frail in health, he never weaponized excuses. He carried his cross quietly and still delivered for the people.

A NATION UNITED IN PRAYER

When news broke of his failing health, Nigeria stood still. Christians prayed in churches, Muslims prayed in mosques, traditionalists raised supplications—because we all loved him. It was perhaps the last time Nigerians were truly united in national prayer for a leader. That moment revealed how deeply he had touched the heart of the nation.

A LEGACY THAT OUTLIVES TIME

Umaru Musa Yar’adua’s presidency may have lasted only two years, but the impact will be remembered for 200 years to come. Nigerians still speak of him with nostalgia, still wish for his kind of leadership, and still mourn the dream that death snatched too soon.

He proved that good leadership is not about length of years, but depth of service. In those two short years, he achieved what others failed to achieve in decades.

THE BEST AND THE WORST

Today, Nigerians look back and say without hesitation: Yar’adua was the best. A man of peace, of justice, of fairness, of sincerity. He showed us what is possible when a leader puts the people first.

In painful contrast, Nigerians now endure the harshest of times under Bola Ahmed Tinubu—the most terrible president Nigeria has ever had. Where Yar’adua brought relief, Tinubu has brought untold hardship. Where Yar’adua united us, Tinubu has divided us. Where Yar’adua saved our economy, Tinubu has crippled it. The difference is clear as night and day.

NIGERIANS MISS HIM

Umaru Musa Yar’adua lives on in our hearts. He was not perfect, but he was genuine, honest, and humane. He gave us hope that Nigeria could be better. And for that, we will miss him forever.

IBRAHIM TRAORÉ AND THE OLD COLONIAL TRICK: HOW THE WEST DESTROYS LIBERATORS

IBRAHIM TRAORÉ AND THE OLD COLONIAL TRICK: HOW THE WEST DESTROYS LIBERATORS Throughout history, oppressors have perfected one simple method to eliminate liberators: “paint the dog black before killing it.” From Ruben Um Nyobé and Ernest Ouandié in Cameroon, to Thomas Sankara in Burkina Faso, Patrice Lumumba in Congo, Muammar Gaddafi in Libya, Saddam Hussein in Iraq, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X in the USA, and even Nelson Mandela before the world later embraced him, the playbook never changes. The West first brands them criminals, dictators, terrorists, or threats to stability. Then the media takes over, the people are deceived, and when the assassin’s bullet comes, the masses cheer. Today, the same script is being written against Captain Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso. Young, fearless, and unapologetically Pan-African, he has become the most loved African president in the world, the nightmare of Western powers, and the inspiration of millions. Yet the West already paints him a...

MARRIAGE, LOVE, AND RELATIONSHIPS: AN AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE ROOTED IN WISDOM AND VALUES

MARRIAGE, LOVE, AND RELATIONSHIPS: AN AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE ROOTED IN WISDOM AND VALUES  In today’s world, social media has become a marketplace for every voice—loud or quiet, wise or foolish, experienced or inexperienced. Unfortunately, some of the loudest voices on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are those who are least qualified to advise others on delicate matters of family, love, and marriage. Popularity on social media does not equate to moral credibility. A person may have followers, but that does not mean they possess the wisdom, patience, or experience needed to guide others in matters of the heart. As Africans, our heritage teaches us that marriage and family are sacred. They require wisdom, emotional maturity, patience, tolerance, and moral discipline. These are not skills picked up from likes and comments—they are values nurtured over time through community living, cultural training, and elder guidance. The Toxicity of Unguided Advice Some relat...

WHY PAUL BIYA’S 8TH TERM IS A FRENCH PROJECT, NOT A CAMEROONIAN CHOICE

WHY PAUL BIYA’S 8TH TERM IS A FRENCH PROJECT, NOT A CAMEROONIAN CHOICE Introduction Cameroon stands at a historic crossroads. After more than four decades in power, President Paul Biya’s pursuit of an eighth term has provoked outrage, skepticism, and despair among many Cameroonians. Yet, beneath the surface, this longevity in office is not simply the result of domestic politics or popular will. It is, above all, a French project—engineered, sustained, and imposed by France to maintain its neo-colonial grip on Cameroon. The Weight of French Interests in Cameroon France has never hidden its deep economic, political, and military interests in Cameroon. From oil and gas in the Bakassi Peninsula to timber, cocoa, and infrastructure contracts, French companies dominate key sectors of the economy. To safeguard these interests, Paris has consistently backed regimes that guarantee continuity rather than change. Paul Biya’s government has offered France exactly that—predictability and compliance...
