Is Issa Tchiroma Bakary a Distractor or a Liberator?
Early Life & Education
Born on 10 September 1949 in Garoua, northern Cameroon, Issa Tchiroma Bakary grew up in a respected family where his father served as an advisor to the Lamido. This upbringing instilled in him deep values of responsibility, discipline, and service to the community.
After early schooling in Douala, he pursued technical training in transport and materials engineering before traveling to Paris. At the University of Paris (Jussieu), he prepared for a PhD in mathematics before redirecting his focus to mechanical engineering at ISMCM, graduating as a railway engineer. Returning home, he worked at Regifercam in Douala, embodying the discipline and pragmatism of a technocrat committed to service.
Imprisonment & Political Rise
In 1984, following the failed coup against President Paul Biya, Tchiroma—though innocent—was swept up in the regime's paranoia and jailed for over six years in the infamous Kondengui and Yoko prisons. Rather than breaking him, this period forged his resolve; he taught himself English and sharpened his vision of a just Cameroon.
Released in 1990, he immediately stepped into politics. In 1992, he was elected to the National Assembly under the UNDP banner and became Minister of Transport (1992–1996), demonstrating competence and courage during a period of national uncertainty.
Government Roles & Resignation
In 2007, Tchiroma founded the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC), a centrist party balancing economic liberalism with social justice. Later, as Minister of Communication (2009–2019), he navigated controversies including the Anglophone crisis and internet blackouts—moments that revealed the contradictions of serving under Biya's repressive regime.
From 2019 to June 2025, he served as Minister of Employment and Vocational Training before resigning. His resignation was not merely personal—it was a political earthquake, a definitive rejection of Paul Biya's four decades of suffocating misrule.
The Biya Regime: A Record of Failure
For 43 years, Paul Biya has turned Cameroon into a personal estate rather than a republic. The regime has delivered:
Endless Corruption
Billions vanish while hospitals collapse and infrastructure crumbles across the nation.
Youth Unemployment
Catastrophic levels pushing young Cameroonians to risk their lives crossing deserts and oceans.
Anglophone Crisis
Left to fester for 9 years with massacres in Kumba, Ekondo-Titi, and Bamenda while government claims "normalcy."
Healthcare Ruins
The poor die at hospital doors for lack of bribes while ministers' families receive premium care abroad.
Hijacked Education
Millions left without access while elite children study overseas, perpetuating inequality.
Hollow Democracy
Elections are stage-managed, dissenters are jailed or exiled, and opposition is systematically dismantled.
Paul Biya's Cameroon is not a country but a business empire, where the predator feeds on the people, and citizens are reduced to prey.
Transition to Opposition & 2025 Bid
On 24–25 June 2025, Issa Tchiroma broke free from this suffocating system. With a comprehensive 20-page manifesto, he declared a new path for Cameroon—anchored on federalism, youth empowerment, justice, and true national reconciliation.
"Cameroon will no longer be a plantation for a few. It will be a nation for all."
In electrifying speeches from Garoua to Douala, Tchiroma has energized a population desperate for change, positioning himself as the only candidate capable of uniting the fractured opposition.
Winning Prospects & Coalition
The political landscape shifted dramatically on 5 August 2025 when Maurice Kamto was disqualified by ELECAM—a decision upheld by the Constitutional Council. Kamto's supporters, disillusioned but determined, rallied behind Issa Tchiroma Bakary.
Today, Tchiroma is not just a candidate—he is the symbol of hope. With an estimated 70% of the electorate potentially on his side and guaranteed strength in the north (50% of votes), he is poised to break Biya's long reign. His coalition represents the largest Francophone-African political alliance, drawing in heavyweights who now recognize him as the only man who can deliver victory.
The Afrisocrat Verdict
History is calling. Cameroon is bleeding. The people are tired. The hour of liberation has come.
Issa Tchiroma Bakary is the Liberator and Unifier Cameroon has been waiting for.
