TINUBU’S FAILED PRESIDENCY: WHY NIGERIANS MUST UNITE TO END THE REIGN OF HARDSHIP IN 2027

By The Afrisocrat Editorial Board

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and once a beacon of hope for the continent, is sinking under the weight of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidency. Since assuming office in 2023, Tinubu has presided over what many Nigerians now describe as the worst administration in the nation’s history. His tenure has been marked not by progress or reform but by hardship, corruption, and authoritarian control.

UNTOLD HARDSHIP AND COLLAPSE OF BASIC AMENITIES

Under Tinubu, ordinary Nigerians face untold hardship. Scarcity of food has become a daily reality, while prices of basic commodities and amenities skyrocket beyond the reach of the poor and middle class. The once promising Naira has been stripped of value, making survival nearly impossible for millions.

Unemployment has soared, with countless citizens losing their jobs. Desperation has driven young men into armed robbery, kidnapping for ransom, ritual killings, and cybercrime, while young women have been forced into prostitution to survive. Nigeria is bleeding its brightest minds as youths flee by road, by sea, and by air to Europe, America, Asia, and even other African nations—risking death in the Mediterranean just to escape the misery at home.

THE DEATH OF DEMOCRACY

Tinubu’s government has effectively killed Nigeria’s three arms of government. Today, only the executive exists. The legislature and the judiciary are shadows of themselves, bullied into silence or bought into submission. INEC and the election tribunals—supposed to be guardians of democracy—have become tools in Tinubu’s hands to manipulate elections, validate fraud, and rubber-stamp his will.

What Nigeria now practices is no longer democracy but one-man rule.

A ONE-PARTY STATE BY FORCE

Nigeria’s proud multiparty system has collapsed under Tinubu’s iron fist. PDP, APGA, and even Labour Party governors are being intimidated by the EFCC and bullied into defecting to the ruling APC. Opposition is not allowed to breathe.

The Rivers State governor was even suspended unconstitutionally, showing how low governance has fallen. Elected leaders are bullied into submission, while citizens groan in silence.

THE STENCH OF CORRUPTION

Corruption is no longer hidden—it is the order of the day. While the masses queue for food, politicians loot billions and flaunt their wealth shamelessly.

When female Senator Natasha Akpoti cried out against alleged sexual harassment by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, she was suspended from the Senate instead of being heard. Even when the court ordered her reinstatement, the Senate ignored the judgment.

Meanwhile, Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State, accused of massive corruption and declared wanted by the EFCC, walked freely after consulting with Tinubu. Yet, the police and EFCC spend their energy arresting youths, activists, and social critics like Omoyele Sowore, Martin Vincent Otse (Very Dark Man), and others for daring to speak truth to power.

ETHNIC BIAS AND SECTIONALISM

Tinubu’s government reeks of nepotism. Almost every strategic government position is dominated by his Yoruba kinsmen from the South West geopolitical zone. This dangerous ethnic monopoly further divides an already fragile nation and fuels resentment across regions.

THE ONLY HOPE: A UNITED COALITION

But amidst the darkness, a new political dawn is rising. The arrogance of power and excesses of figures like Nyesom Wike have fractured the ruling party, while disillusionment has emptied PDP of heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar and Dino Melaye.

In an unprecedented move, major political actors—Peter Obi, David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Emeka Ihedioha, Nasir El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, Dino Melaye, Rotimi Amaechi and others—have united under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to form a coalition strong enough to unseat Tinubu in 2027.

This coalition represents Nigeria’s only chance at survival. Without it, the suffering will deepen, democracy will remain dead, and the nation risks complete collapse.

CONCLUSION

Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidency is not just a failure; it is a national tragedy. It has brought hardship, corruption, insecurity, and the death of democracy itself.

But history shows that tyrants only thrive when the opposition is divided. Nigeria’s salvation lies in unity. The coalition now forming must be protected, strengthened, and supported. For in 2027, Nigerians must rise with one voice to say: Enough is enough. Tinubu must go.
